Biography
Arnold Vosloo is an internationally known South African actor. He was born in Pretoria, South Africa, on June 16, 1962. Both of his parents had been stage-actors and during his childhood his father ran a drive-thru theatre. Arnold Vosloo's family moved around during his childhood, but he mostly grew up in Port Elizabeth and Alberton, South Africa. Beginning his career as an actor in South African theater, he went on to become a locally successful film actor in movies such as "Little Brother Goes to the Border" and "Circles in a Forest".
In the late eighties, Arnold Vosloo went to the United States to further pursue his acting career, becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1988. Besides a number of theatre appearances during this time, including acting in the play Salome alongside Al Pacino, Arnold Vosloo further developed his film career, playing the superhero character Darkman in two sequels to the original Sam Raimi movie: "Darkman II: The Return of Durant" and "Darkman III: Die Darkman Die". He replaced Liam Neeson in this role.
Arnold Vosloo's breakthrough performance to gain international recognition as a film actor was as the titular character (and villain) of "The Mummy", in which he starred next to Brendan Frasier. In this movie, and its 2001 sequel "The Mummy Returns", Arnold Vosloo played an ancient Egyptian priest who became a mummy to escape death through reincarnation in the present day. Arnold Vosloo also went on to appear in a number of television roles. In the internationally popular television action series "24", Arnold Vosloo played the primary villain for the fourth season, as terrorist Habib Marwan. Other television shows that Arnold Vosloo has appeared in include "Alias", "Charmed", "Nash Bridges" and "American Gothic". He also appeared recently in the successful 2006 action movie "Blood Diamond" as a mercenary. Arnold Vosloo continues to appear frequently in television and films as of early 2007.
