Biography
Originally performing as a child star, Anthony Michael Hall has gone on to appear or star in over 70 movies, television programs, and archived footage, as well as producing/directing several others. He began as a stage and commercial actor beginning at age eight, and eventually moved on to big hits of the 80s and 90s, showing no intention of stopping in the new millenium.
He was born in Boston on April 14, 1968, as Michael Anthony Thomas Charles Hall, and although he began his career early, it would be his work in teen movies of the 1980s that would get him noticed. His appearance in Sixteen Candles laid the groundwork for other films, such as his starring role in The Breakfast Club and Weird Science. However, he was able to break out of his teen nerd stereotype with Edward Scissorhands in 1985 and has since gone on to even bigger roles, such as Bill Gates in Pirates of Silicon Valley.
Hall has also made a niche for himself in television, appearing Saturday Night Live and the series The Dead Zone (which he also produces). He has also had roles in Deadly Games, and single episodes of other television serials. In addition to his acting career, he helps at-risk youth through a literacy club at Chapman University, and helps young people educate themselves through musical lyrics, movie scripts, films, books on tape, and other media as well.
He has also often been busy as lead singer in the band "Hall of Mirrors." In addition to lead singer, he is also the songwriter of the band, and with assistance from Gilby Clarke (formerly of Guns N' Roses) and Tommy Barbarella (formerly with Prince) released an album in 1999 on Hall's indie label RAM Records.
