Biography
Annie Lennox was born on December 25, 1954, in Scotland. She is an award winning musician and vocalist. Thus far in her career, Lennox as won an Oscar, a Brit, a Grammy and a Golden Globe. She has performed both as a solo artist and as a part of the duo Eurythmics. In many corners, Lennox has been hailed as the "Greatest White Soul Singer Alive." She has been named as one of the 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll in 1999.
Born in Aberdeen, Lennox was educated as a classical musician and actually studied the flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Lennox had to work her way through the Academy, taking jobs as a waitress, shop assistant and barmaid during that time period.
Lennox spent three years as the lead singer of a group called The Tourists. With that said, she achieved her most notable success as the lead singer of the duo Eurythmics in the 1980s. During this period, she became famous for her androgyny -- wearing men's clothing. She even once impersonated Elvis Presley.
Eurythmics released a series of top selling songs throughout the existence of the group, including: "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", "Here Comes the Rain Again", "Who's That Girl?", "Would I Lie to You?", "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)", "Missionary Man", "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart", and "Don't Ask Me Why".
Beginning in 1990, Lennox embarked on what has proven to be a very successful solo career. She has made a significant amount of money through her career -- both with the Eurythmics and as a solo performer.
She has been married twice and has two living children. She had a stillborn son whom she named Daniel in 1988.
