Biography
Anni-Frid Lyngstad, who actually is better know as Frida, is one of the members of the wildly popular group ABBA. She was born on November 15, 1945.
Lyngstad actually began her singing career at the age of 13. At that time, she sang jazz in Sweden, her native country. Later she formed her own band and ended up marrying the bass player, in 1963 at the age of 18. The marriage resulted in two children, although the couple did divorce before the end of the decade.
In 1967 Lyngstad won a television talent contest and subsequently released several marginally successful singles for the EMI label. Because these singles did not light the world on fire, Lyngstad even thought of abandoning her career as a singer. However, by 1972 -- and through 1982 -- Lyngstad became part of ABBA.
Even during the heyday of ABBA, Lyngstad continued to do some solo work. Moreover, in 1982 when ABBA stopped performing as a group, Lyngstad released her first solo album in English. Phil Collins produced the recording. This recording ended up being quite successful around the world.
Lyngstad continues to record and perform in her native Sweden and in other venues around the world as well.
In 2005, Lyngstad rejoined her ABBA colleagues for the Swedish premier of Mamma Mia! -- a musical production that features the music of ABBA. While no ABBA reunion is on the horizon, the songs made popular by the group some twenty five and thirty years ago remain high on play lists and popular even to this day.
