Biography
Anna Paquin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She is the daughter of two teachers. The family ended up moving to New Zealand when Anna was four years old. At the age of 11, she had her debut film appearance in The Piano. The film won great praise from the critics. Anna won an Academy Award for Best Supporting actress for her role in that film. She was the second youngest Oscar winner of all time, after Tatum O'Neal for The Paper Moon.
After her parents divorce, Anna moved with her mother where she finished high school and starred in several other highly regarded film roles. She enrolled in Columbia University where she has completed one year of her studies. She is on a leave of absence in order to continue to pursue her acting career.
In 2001, Anna became a citizen of New Zealand officially. Her more recent movie roles include parts in Rogue, X-Men and X2.
Anna made her debut on the stage in 2001 in the production of The Glory of Living. For her performance in this play, she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and won a Theatre World Award. In 2002, Anna appeared in the West End (London) production of This is Our Youth.
Her two most recent projects, Blue State and Margaret, are scheduled for release in 2007. At this time, she is one of the most sought after young actresses in the business. Despite becoming a citizen of New Zealand, Anna currently resides in the West Village of New York City.
According to Anna, she intends to continue to pursue roles in both film and on the stage into the future She does hope to resume her studies at Columbia University at some juncture as well.
