Biography
Angus MacFadyen, born October 21, 1963, is most famous for his role in Braveheart as Robert the Bruce. A fun bit of trivia: he had originally auditioned for the part of Edward II, King Edward Longshanks' homosexual son. After the audition, he approached Mel Gibson (director and star of the movie), discussed the role with him, and won it.
Macfadyen was born in Scotland in 1963. He was raised in France but returned to his native land for his drama training at the University of Edinburgh. He performed in various productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, including, The Tempest, Cloud Nine, The Immortals, and many more. He has also written plays, and 1905 won a Questors Student Playing Award in 1991.
His other films include Brylcreem Boys, a film about World War II, fantasy film Warriors of Virtue, and Snide and Prejudice, where he places a man who thinks he is Adolph Hitler. In all, he has 36 movie and television appearances under his belt, a soundtrack to The Rat Pack, and three other appearances as himself. Most recently, he starred in the new mim-series (made for television) called Killer Wave, a movie with a story line about a terrorist attack designed to create killing tsunami-type waves.
Also in post-production is his movie San Saba, a mystery, Redline, a finished auto/action thriller, and Clean Break, a drama thriller that centers around a suspicious suicide. Another recent work is his appearance in the short film, Raging Mad Sea Dog or Fawning Puppy, a film about Blackbeard in which Macfadyen discusses conflictin aspects of Blackbeard's personality. He also had a large part in the documentary companion movie to Braveheart, called Mel Gibson's 'Braveheart': A Filmmaker's Passion. This move talks about Mel Gibson's relationship to the movie as actor, producer, and director.
