Biography
Andy is half of the team of Larry and Andy Wachowski, the writers and film directors who are famous for the Matrix movies. Andy Wachowski was morning in Chicago on December 29, 1967, and was raised there with his brother. Although their mother jokes that their collaborative efforts began when they were toddlers (they are only two years apart), they probably got much of their creative boost from attending the Whitney Young High School, a performing arts-centered public high school. Their favorite role there was as support, preferring to work behind the stage instead of stand out upon it.

Although they both dropped out of college to go into the carpentry trade, it didn't deter their progress in the field of film-they developed their ideas for the Matrix collection of films while running their business as carpenters, and created comic books as well. Their bent for stories with many parts comes from the Tolkien books, and seem to like to leave their viewers hanging at the end of a movie. As Andy says, "We want to screw with audiences' expectations."

It must be a good way to do plan a movie series: The series made over $4 million for each brother, and the Wachowski brothers have gone on to work on many more projects, such as V for Vendetta. Unfortunately, there is much controversy surrounding the Matrix project. Grant Morrison, comic book writer, and Sophia Stewart both claim the series was stolen from their ideas, and Stewart went as far as to sue them. She lost the suit due to failure to produce her evidence on time, and the truth may never be known.

Regardless, there will be more forthcoming from Andy Wachowski, with a movie (Speedracer) in pre-production stages and due for release in 2008.
