Biography
153.5 miles per hour. That's how fast one of Andy Riddick's serves was clocked during a quarterfinal tennis match at Thailand's Queen's Club tournament. He also produced the fastest serve in the history of the U.S. Open that year as well, at 152 mph. But that's not all the star of the courts has done over his lifetime.

Andrew Stephen Roddick was born on August 30, 1982, and is one of the world's best tennis players ever to grace the surfaces. He has held the title of World No. 1, as well as being the top American player. He has won many titles and is known for his strength and power; however, after 2003 (his breakthrough year), Roddick experienced enough losses that public opinion began to decline and some tennis experts have questioned his intentions. They have also criticized his lack of aggression on his backhand and strong reliance on forehand play. Roddick may well be under pressure to change his play drastically over the 2007 season.

He will also be busy with his other activities, however. He has tried a spot on television, playing himself in the show Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, in which Sabrina summons the star for tennis lessons. He has also hosted Saturday Night Live, the second tennis player to do so in the history of the show.

If that's not enough, Roddick does much charity work, earning the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award in 2005 for his work in raising money for Serving Tsunami Relief and others. He has also put up his rackets for auction to raise money for UNICEF, and with help from his family created the Andy Roddick Foundation. This charity was created to help at-risk youth, and is funded in part by sales of blue wristbands that say, "No Compromise." Whether Roddick is able to overcome the "one slam wonder" title some of his critics have assigned him, he is still a champion.
