Andruw Hones was born on April 23, 1977, in the Netherlands Antilles. He was born in the town of Willenstad. He eventually immigrated to the United States where he has become a very successful American baseball player.

Jones is an outfielder for the Atlanta Braves. Through his career, he has collected a number of significant awards for this playing abilities. These awards include nine consecutive Gold Glove awards. In addition, he has received a prestigious Hank Aaron Awards and a Silver Slugger Aware.

There are some observers of the sport who has gone so far as to dub Jones the best all around defensive center field player since the magnificent Willie Mays -- a significant designation in and of itself. In fact, in short speed after joining the Braves organization, Jones would be on his way to breaking a number of different records very early in his stellar career.

Jones actually has been playing for the Braves organization since he was a boy. He signed with the organization in 1993 at the age of sixteen, assigned to a farm team. Within a few years, many baseball experts, historians and fans labeled Jones as the "next Griffey."

By the time he was nineteen years old, the Braves brought him up into the majors. He began his career in the major league playing right field, before moving into the center field position.

It was in the 1996 World Series that people across the country had a demonstration of Jones' talent. He made two home run hits two consecutive times at bat. He became the youngest player ever to hit a home run in the World Series. In fact, he broke a record set by the legendary Mickey Mantle -- on Mickey Mantle's birthday. His career and his talent have served as an inspiration for many people who love baseball.
