Biography
American actor Andre Braugher is probably best known for his work as the detective Frank Pembleton on the series Homicide: Life on the Street. However, he has other credits as well, including the made-for-television movie of Homicide.

He was born on July 1, 1962 to Sally and Floyd Braugher. He attended and graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in theater, even though he had originally enrolled in pre-med. Later he earned his MFA from Juilliard School, where he achieved acclaim as the most outstanding theatre student.

Andre Braugher's first role was the Civil War film Glory, in which he played Thomas Searles. Searles was an educated free black man who joins the Union Army. After this role, he joined the series Homicide: Life on the Street. For his role, he earned awards for individual achievement from the Television Critics Association. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award in 1996 for best actor in a dramatic series, and won the title in 1998.

Since then he has made over 40 appearances in television and film, including Homicide: The Movie. He has also had starring roles in theatre productions, including the lead role in Henry V. He currently has three appearances in post-production, scheduled to be released in 2007: Live!, The Mist, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Acting is not his only involvement with film. He served as producer on 10,000 Black Men Named George, a labor drama, and has appeared in 20 other television shows as himself on talk television and as narrator. He also appeared in the movie, Jazz, a documentary that serves as an overview of the history of the musical form and the talents who made it what it is today.
