Biography
Born Rosalie Anderson MacDowell on April 21, 1958 in South Carolina, Andie MacDowell has become one of America's most popular screen actresses. She has many movie credits to her name, as well as television appearances and production credits.
She began a modeling career after dropping out of college in her sophomore year. As an Elite Model Management model, she was hired for television ads and print work for L'Oreal. She also appeared in some Calvin Klein commercials on television, and they led to her discovery and casting in Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Her southern accent was so pronounced, her lines in the movie had to be recorded by Glenn Close.
However, it was another four years before she was recognized and her career took off. She was cast in the indie film sex, lies, and videotape, where her abilities were recognized. She was soon cast in other films, although her best successes were roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Groundhog Day. She also appeared in Saturday Nighy Live, Shortcuts, Michael, and recently appeared in the television series Insatiable, which is currently in post-production.
Her career includes over 40 appearances or starring roles in film and television series, and she has appeared on talk shows and other television spots as well. Her additional television appearances number over 20. In addition to acting, she served as producer for the 1999 comedy romance, Just the Ticket, a movie where she also had a starring role.
It seems over the years she has managed her heavy southern accent, and that we will see much more of this actress. With all her past credits and new momentum gained in her career, it doesn't seem like she will be stopping any time soon.
