Anastacia Lyn Newkirk was born on September 17, 1968, and since then not much has kept her out of the spotlight. Even though she has not achieved wide acclaim in America, her home country, she has seen huge success abroad and sold 25 million recordings. Her voice is known for its power and dark qualities.

It hasn't been a rosy trip for Anastacia. In 2003, the singer was diagnosed with breast cancer, she has suffered with Chrone's disease since she was 13, and previously had poor enough eyesight to cause her to get surgery to correct her vision. However, none of this stopped her from developing her song, a fact for which she credits her fans greatly. At 5'3" she has been called "the little lady with the big voice." The daughter of actress Diane Hurley, Anastacia has had five hit singles overseas, produced from four albums.

Singing is not her only life. A breast cancer survivor, she has also established a breast cancer awareness fund called the "Anastacia Fund. She credits some of her positive musical changes to her scrape with cancer, and her new sound is said to possess more of an edge. It is a combination of soul, pop, and rock, a fusion she affectionately termed "Sprock." This sound has influenced many new and up-coming artists, such as Jamelia and P!nk.

Anastacia supports many causes in her life in addition to cancer awareness. She has participated in AIDS charity events, children's benefits, and many more. She is engaged to Wayne Newton, her bodyguard, and they are expected to marry in 2007. She originally stated she would not produce another album until after the wedding, but it appears that she couldn't stay away from her music-rumors are that an album is forthcoming.
