Biography
Ananda Lewis says she doesn't have time for boyfriends. With everything else she does, it seems to be a fair statement. The outspoken, energetic television interviewer and entertainer tackles everything from tough issues to celebrities. After jobs as VJ on MTV and a teen host on Black Entertainment Television (BET), Ananda got the television show she so richly deserved.
She was born in San Diego, California on March 21, 1973. She recognized her love of the stage early in her life, and performed for her firs theatre production when she was only three years old. She spent nine more years working on her dramatic arts at the San Diego School of Creative Performing Arts, and this training set her up for a great future in entertainment and television.
However, being a social activist was also important to her, and she spent much time volunteering at places like the Head Start organization. Here she helped disadvantaged children achieve and develop a love of learning. However, she was also attacked by a boyfriend during this time, and refocused her efforts toward helping girls and young teens learn about rape and encouraging abstinence.
Ananda attended Howard University in Washington, and she took course work in history with the intent to teach. She also continued to volunteer to help at-risk youth, and helped teens improve their lives. But after she graduated, she couldn't stay away from the stage and entertainment, so she returned to entertainment. This time, she took her training in helping teens with her, and hosted a show called Teen Summit on the BET network, covering difficult issues like pregnancy and drug use. She also had a short stint as a VJ on MTV.
Soon her way with people was recognized, as well as her beauty, and she was offered her own show. The Ananda Lewis Show aired for the first time in 2001, and rather than stick with the usual talk show format, she broke out of the mold and began tackling bigger issues. She also appeared on other talk shows. She is now the host of the A&E show The Insider, and she serves as the chief correspondent on celebrity affairs.
