Biography
Oscar nominated American television and film star Amy Lou Adams was born on August 20, 1975 in Vincenza, Italy, while her father was stationed with the U.S. Army. Richard and Kathryn Adams are her parents. Amy is from a Mormon family with seven children including her and they live in Castle Rock, Colorado. Amy attended Douglas County High School. She always had dreams of a career in the entertainment field. While in high school she worked part time at Hooters Restaurant and following graduation she began her training for a career as a dancer and began working at a Denver dinner theater.
A few years after high school, Amy moved to Minnesota for an opportunity to work at another dinner theater outside Minneapolis. For three years Amy honed her singing, dancing and acting skills by being a variety of productions. While still in Minnesota, a movie producer discovered her and she landed a role in a 1999 comedy, Drop Dead Gorgeous, co-starring Kirsten Dunst and Denise Richards.
Since that time she has appeared in numerous films such as Cruel Intentions 2, in 2000 and Catch Me If You Can in 2002. Her guest appearances on television have been numerous to include The Office, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, The West Wing and Smallville.
Her 2005 film Junebug gave her critical acclaim with awards such as the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, the National Society of Film Critics award for "Best Supporting Actress", and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female. In 2006, Adams was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Junebug.
Recent movies also include appearances in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and an upcoming movie called Enchanted, which will be out in November 2007.
