Biography
Born on January 12, 1980, Amerie Mi Marie Rogers, known as Amerie is a top R&B singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award. Amerie was born in Massachusetts and traveled internationally throughout her life because her father was in the military. She now resides in Washington, D.C.

She has strong family ties and has a sister who is her lawyer. Her father is African-American and her mother is Korean. Amelia also holds degrees in English and Fine Arts from Georgetown University in which she graduated in 2000.

Amerie is bi-lingual and Korean is her first language in which she learned when living in Seoul for several years. She is now conversational in the language that she speaks with her mother. Amerie shows her loyalty to her heritage by having a tattoo of her name in Korean script on her lower back. She is frequently known to sign her name in both English and Korean.

One her most famous singles is "Why Don't We Fall in Love", from her album All I Have. The album went Gold with 723,000 being sold in the United States alone.

In 2002 she did a single called "I'm Coming Out" for the soundtrack to the 2002 film Maid in Manhattan. She has been a vocalist with LL Cool J's "Paradise" and on DJ Kayslay's "Too Much for Me", as a background singer.

Amerie was the host on BET's The Center for a short period of time but left to begin an acting career in a romantic comedy called First Daughter with actress Katie Holmes and actor Michael Keaton.

As a songwriter she created her second album called Touch which was number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and was certified Gold that year while receiving two Grammy Award nominations in 2006 for "Best Female R & B Vocal Performance" and "Best Contemporary R & B Album" for "1 Thing".

Her single "1 Thing" was the soundtrack for the movie Hitch, which starred Will Smith and Eva Mendes. This was her biggest hit and was later certified Platinum and became her first top ten hit in the United States as number one on the Hot R & B/Hip-Hop Songs.
