Biography
Few men can resist turning their heads away from their loyal, unsuspecting women to look at a group of young, beautiful women who could both strut their stuff across the stage and sing like a sweet symphony. For Melanie Blatt, Shaznay Lewis, Nicole Appleton and Natalie Appleton (yes, you guessed it, the Appleton's are sisters) living life as the All Saints, all girls all British all pop band in the late 1990s was the highlight of a lifetime.
Originally, Natalie and Nicole were not members of All Saints, and the band was called All Saints 1.9.7.5 with third member Simone Rainford. But in 1995, Rainford left the band and Melanie and Shaznay set out on their own and to find a replacement for Rainford. Fortunately, in 1995, they snagged both Nicole and Natalie (who was a new mom at the time) and in November 1996 they were signed to London Records-after a long ordeal where every other recording company tried to turn them into the Spice Girls, or their clone.
In 1997, their single "I Know Where it's At" hit #4 on the UK Charts, but it wasn't until they released their next single "Never Ever" that they rocketed to the top of the charts and into stardom, selling over a million copies in the UK alone and winning them awards like BRIT Awards for Best Single and Best Video in 1998 and Breakthrough Artist at the MTV Europe Awards. Their second-best selling single "Pure Shores" was released in 2000.
Over the original five years that the band was together, they had a total of 5 number 1 hit singles across the globe and recorded two albums, which sold over ten million copies worldwide.
After a 5 year split that produced a number of Top Ten hits for all three newly formed groups, solo artists Melanie and Shaznay and the duo, Appleton, the girls missed each other-all it took for them to get back together after four years of not speaking was a phone call and a sit down meal at a nice restaurant, reformed the All Saints and released their third album "Studio 1" in November of 2006.
Their first single as the newly reformed All Saints, Rock Steady, was released on the 24th of January 2006, and made a splash in UK, just like their previous hits. It was also reported around the same time that they would be planning a UK-wide tour in 2007 to promote their new album, although dates haven't popped up on the radar everywhere as of yet. The girls have done a number of smaller, more intimate performances since their reunification, with companies like Mobile Phone and Ant & Dec.
The All Saints have a poppin' fresh sound that makes the world go round for them and their fans alike, which is why no matter what their trouble in the past they are still All Saints.
