Biography
Most men would agree, giving a resounding whoop and a holler, that there's nothing like a tall, sexy, dirty dish water blonde woman...with an accent. Alex Kingston is not only one of the most recognizable television doctors in the United States, but is also a revered and beloved stage actress in her home country, England.
And aside from being adept at the silver screen and the stage, Alex has also made a home for herself on the big screen, appearing in dozens of European films. Whatever spare time she has is devoted to her family, including her young daughter, Salome Violetta Haertel.
Alex may have started out her acting career at a young age with a young play about her, but she has blossomed into an adult actress that is coveted, not only in England, but also in the United States and throughout the world at large.
Born Alexandra Kingston in London, England on the 11 March 1963, Alex was exposed to theatre at a very early age through her uncle's practices in stage theatre. While she made her own entrance into stage acting at the delicate age of 5 years old even if she did play a guy (Alex was cast as Gabriel in the Nativity Story).
Alex received her first big break when landed her first professional role at age 15 on the British television series, "Grange Hill." Just after she finished school Alex made her way into stage acting with roles in plays like "The Curse of the Starving Class," "Much Ado About Nothing," "The Alchemist" and "Othello." While these more classical roles won her critical acclaim throughout London, it was her more contemporary television roles that proved her versatility and prepared her for her debut into American television. Some of Alex's more contemporary roles in London were "A Killing Exchange" and "I Hate Christmas" as well as roles in the American TV Movies "Weapons of Mass Distraction and The Infiltrator." Alex won critical acclaim for her title role in PBS' "Moll Flanders," a win in her career that caused her collision course with NBC and American small screen fame as Elizabeth Corday on ER.
Along with wowing the crowds on the stage in London as well as the small screen in both London and the United States, Alex has made her way onto the big screen with roles in such films as "Essex Boys," "Curran's Wife," "A Pin for the Butterfly," "The Woman and the Wolf," "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover" and "The WildCats of St. Trinian's."
Alex was once married to actor Ralph Fiennes, who she met at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, although they were divorced in late 1995.
Currently, Alex is married to journalist Florian Haertel and they have one daughter, Salome-who coincidentally, also played Alex's daughter, Ella Green, on ER in 1994.
So whether you next see her a classical lady of the Renaissance, or as a high-flouting contemporary woman of the world, Alex's skills and curvaceous figure, along with her deep British accent, may her one of Hollywood's most unforgettable.
