Biography
It is incredibly difficult, nearly impossible, for any woman to resist the manliness that comes with a great body, a gorgeous face, deep-searing eyes and a huge...wallet. Alan Rickman is not only famous for looking great on and off the screen, but he is also known for portraying some of the most memorable characters in film history.

While Alan may have become an actor by chance of a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, it is no secret that the world, filmmakers and film watchers alike, cheer that Alan decided to become an actor rather than a graphic artist, although arguably, in some sense, he is a graphic artist.

Born Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman on 21 February 1946, Alan spent much of his young life dreaming of the day when he would be a graphic artist. But fortune swayed him away from this course at age 26, and his first real on-stage acting experience came in a theatrical version of "Dangerous Liaisons."

Although Alan grew up with a stark speech impediment, he has learned over the years to incorporate this tick into his slick, deep, and otherwise sexy drawl that has made him a super star.

Alan's big break in Hollywood came in 1988 when he was cast as Hans Gruber in the blockbuster-hit film "Die Hard." Over the next 13 years, Alan played both on the stage and on the big screen, winning critical acclaim for his roles in both venues.

Alan has continuously passed up screen roles to return to the theater and it's no wonder. The critical acclaim Alan has received for his back-to-roots on-stage acting has paid off in nominations far more often than his on-screen roles. In 2002, he was nominated for the Tony award for Best Actor for his role in the revival of "Private Lives." For the same show, he received the award for Best Stage Actor at the Variety Club Show Business Awards.

Empire magazine repeatedly makes love to Alan's career by choosing him for numerous awards and honors such as: rank #34 of the 100 sexiest actors in film history (1995), rank #59 of the top 100 movie stars of all time and #19 of the greatest living movie stars over age 50. For most actors, achieving even one of these lists in a lifetime is a chore, but for Alan it seems to just be the icing on the cake of his already fruitful career.

The two major highlights in Alan's film career have been Alan's role as Hans Gruber in Die Hard earned him an immortal place as the 46th best villain in film history on the American Film Institute's list of the same name. In 2001, Alan was given the opportunity of a lifetime when he was offered a starring role as Professor Severus Snape in the now ultra-successful Harry Potter film series, which he will continue to earn fame and fans from until the end of the Harry Potter line of books.

Alan has been in a happy, health relationship with former councilwoman Rima Horton since 1965. The pair share a home in London, where Rita spends most her leisure time since her retirement in 2006.
