Biography
Aerosmith Rocks! Their music flowed and their fans followed them everywhere while they produced some of the best platinum hard rock albums ever heard and took their music to the ultimate depths with the powerful ballad Dream On. More than that Aerosmith is known for their hard fighting comeback in the 1980's after years of drug abuse and downward sales.
Aerosmith began their career as a band in 1970 from Sunapee, NH and this is where Steven Tyler met guitarist Joe Perry. Later that year, the band relocated to Boston with Tom Hamilton (bassist), Brad Whitford (Guitars) and Joey Kramer on drums. They soon signed up with Columbia records and came out with their debut album in 1973. It was a huge success and most of it was due to their single Dream On.
Their second album was Get Your Wings and it remained on the top charts for 85 weeks due to the band's grass roots following. 1975 started with their breakthrough album Toys in the Attic and soon after Aerosmith was a household name. The album was pushed to the number 11 spot because of the singles Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way. Due to the success of Toys in the Attic Aerosmith re-released Dream On, which went into the Top 10 in early 1976 and was a hot seller.
Late 1977 followed up with Draw the Line, which went platinum and remained on the No. 11 in the top charts. Aerosmith went on a U.S. tour in 1978 and appeared in the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, with a cover performance of Come Together. In 1979, they released the gold album Night in the Ruts, after which Joe Perry and guitarist Brad Whitford quit the band. Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay were the replacements while Steven Tyler was recovering from a serious motorcycle accident that kept him in hospital for months.
After Steven Tyler recovered, Aerosmith came up with their Greatest Hits, which sold over six million copies and in 1982, Aerosmith with its new incarnation released Hard Place. Soon after Columbia Records dropped, the band while Perry and Whitford joined for a 1984 reunion tour. Aerosmith signed a new record deal with Geffen as the band began a new phase with the release of Done With Mirrors in 1986. The resurgence of Aerosmith as a hardcore classic rock band with their original line-up was a treat for their fans. They appeared on the Run-D.M.C.'s 1986 cover of Walk This Way and this got the group back into the limelight.
Aerosmith recorded a slick 1987-comeback album, Permanent Vacation that was among the Top 10 hits with Dude (Looks Like A Lady), Rag Doll and Angel. The album sold over three million copies with hits like Janie's Got a Gun and Love in an Elevator. The album sold four million copies and made Aerosmith the most successful comeback in rock history. A few years later in 1993, Aerosmith came out with Get A Grip, which was as popular as their previous albums and the hit singles like Livin' on the Edge, Cryin' and the power ballad Amazing took it to the number one spot. They sold over 12 million copies worldwide and won the group two Grammy awards. In 2001, Aerosmith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they also released Just Push Play, the first album to be produced by Tyler and Perry.
