Biography
Perhaps being the youngest actor to win an Oscar is not enough for Adrien Brody. He has brought a wave of fresh air in the stale and staid Hollywood that was full of the same oft-repeated faces and personalities! A truly talented, determined and ambitious actor, Adrien Brody didn't take time to become the cool new kid on the scene, when he began landed modelling contracts, and did movies with myriad hues such as "Manolete", "King Kong", and "Hollywoodland".

Though his roles in acclaimed movies such as the 'Summer of Sam' and 'The Thin Red Line' helped him gain flight into the orbit of stardom, he wasn't really successful in landing slam dunk in the circle! But his fortunes took a turn for the better, when he was cast in the role of a Polish Jew Wladyslaw Szpilman in Roman Polanski's 'The Pianist', that not only won him an Academy Award at 29, but also embraced him into the circle of the elitist.

Born on 14 April 1973, in New York, New York to a renowned Hungarian photographer mother who often took him on assignments, Brody credits these trips and his mother for making him feel comfortable in front of the camera. Brody enjoyed his sojourns in front of the camera from a young age. At 12, he was performing magic acts at children's parties as 'The Amazing Adrien'. Seeing his passion for performing, his mother enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Manhattan's La Guardia High School of Performing Arts.

Adrien Brody's life story is one that is often heard - of ambition, passion, defeat, and determination that not only led him to success but also propelled him to reach 'unachievable' heights. Though the initial years of Brody's acting career were obscure, he managed to establish himself as an actor of reckoning with roles in different movies. After a few roles where he was relegated to playing second fiddle to other actors, Brody was able to exercise his acting muscles for the first time, in Barry Levinson's 'Liberty Heights' (1999).

Even before he passed high school, Brody managed to act alongside Mary Tyler Moore in a short-lived TV series Annie McGuire (1998). He also acted as Billy in the family film 'Home at Last' the same year. But Brody wanted to complete his high school before getting into acting fulltime. Also in 1998, Brody was featured on a cover of the Vanity Fair Magazine as one of the hot, young, and photogenic men of that year. After doing a bit part in 'New York Stories' by Woody Allen, he did a meatier role in Steven Soderbergh's Kind of the Hill (1993). He also acted in other movies like 'Angels in the Outfield' (1994), 'Ten Benny' (1996) and 'The Last Time I Committed Suicide' (1997).

Not one to be deterred by lack of success, or tangible results, Brody kept working in different movies one of which had him in a pivotal role of a bisexual punk rocker in Spike Lee's 'Summer of Sam' (1999). The movie won rave reviews but failed to grab eyeballs of the industry's big wigs. But that was all about to change, with The Pianist.

Now Adrien Brody is being compared to Hollywood legends - Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino. Hard work pays off after all.
