Biography
At some point, everyone wishes that they could be living life on the Edge. But what if the Edge was constantly crushing you in a Downward Spiral, Edgecating you, all the while keeping you in the dark about the final moment of your Edgecution? Adam Copeland not only knows how to live life on the edge, but in reality, or maybe just his profession, he is the Edge, outwrestling many of the world's greatest.
Born Adam Joseph Copeland on 30 October 1973 in Orangeville Ontario, Canada, Adam was an avid young hockey player and did not know he wanted to be a wrestler until April of 1990 when he saw Hulk Hogan live. He seems to have taken everything he saw that day and enhanced it to become a unique experience for viewers and terrifying experience for opponents.
Soon after seeing Hogan live, Adam began his wrestling career, working for many independent promotions throughout Ontario, Canada and also in the Great Lakes region of the United States. He remained relatively obscure in fame outside of his home town area over the next eight years, despite winning several tag team titles.
Adam's big break came in 1998 when he was signed to the World Wrestling Federation and began using the moniker "Edge", a decision that skyrocketed Adam into stardom and has kept him there ever since, despite a short downturn in wins from 2002 to 2003.
From 2000 on, Adam was repeatedly listed in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's yearly awards: Match of the Year (2000 for his tag team versus the Hardy Boyz vs. the Dudley Boyz), Most Improved Wrestler (2001), Match of the Year (2001 for his tag team vs. the Hardy Boyz vs the Dudley Boyz), Comeback of the Year (2004), Feud of the Year (2005 for his real-life turned fantasy story affair with Matt Hardy's wife (Lita) Amy Dumas), #3 in PWI 500 (2006), Feud of the Year (2006 against John Cena), Most Hated Wrestler of the Year (2006).
Adam has also stayed on top of the WWE winning dozens of awards to prove that is not only the most hated, but also the best (which is why is the most hated): WWE Championship (2 times), WWE Intercontinental Championship (5 times), WCW United States Championship (1 time), WWF/E World Tag Team Championship (11 times- paired up with Christian, Hulk Hogan, Chris Benoit and Randy Orton), WWE Tag Team Championship (1 time with Rey Mysterio), King of the Ring (2001), Mr. Money in the Bank (2005) and he is also the 14th Triple Crown Champion.
Adam has been married twice, first to Alannah Morley from 2001-2004, and then to Lisa Ortiz, a marriage that did not even last a year.
So whether you next see him slamming down opponents on his own or with one of his tag team buddies, Adam's thirst for blood and the wins have made him one of the greatest and unsurpassed wrestlers of his time, which is why he's been called both Adam Impact and The Rated R Superstar-Adam really does know how to live on the Edge.
