Biography
Dressed in an outrageous costume, with a painted face and a Gibson guitar slung over his shoulder, Ace Frehley cuts an interesting figure. Famous as the 'Celestial One' and 'Mr. Excitement', he is a livewire and his fans call him Spaceman, who entertains them with stinging vibrato, distorted guitar riffs and rockets shooting out of his guitar.

Born Paul Daniel Frehley in Bronx, New York on 27 April 1971, he was the youngest of three children. His father Karl was an electrical engineer while his mother Esther was a homemaker. He got his nickname during the high school days when he became an ace in getting his friends their dates.

Ace started playing the guitar at the age of 13 and was influenced by Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rollingstones, Albert Lee, B.B.King and Buddy Guy. Frehley had seen an advertisement that said, "Guitarist wanted with flash and balls". He walked in for the audition with red and orange sneakers right when Bob Kulick was auditioning. Soon after, the group consisting of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons decided to jam on Deuce and this is where Frehley hit the right cords with a ripping solo. A week later in 1973, he was in and the band that named itself KISS.

In the early days, KISS played at clubs like Daisy and Coventry and experimented with their make-up and this is where Ace got his spaceman make-up and even designed the KISS logo, which was later refined by Paul Stanley. During the first few albums of KISS, Frehley wrote a couple of songs. The first was Cold Gin from the first album KISS (1974) and then wrote Parasite and Strange Ways for the album Hotter than Hell (1974). He then wrote Gateway from Dressed to Kill (1975), which was sung by Peter. The first song for which Ace actually lend his voice was Shock Me from the 1977 classic album Love Gun.

After this, Ace went on to singing as well as playing the lead for Rocket Ride from ALIVE II. But around 1976, he went deeper into the world of alcohol, drugs and sex and missed a couple of recordings for destroyer (1976). Soon Bob Ezrin, the producer replaced him on a couple of tracks with Dick Wagner and Bob Kulick played the lead in ALIVE II (1978). In 1980, Peter left the band and Ace seemed to have lost the only friend he had in the band. Ace left soon enough especially after the album The Elder (1981) came out. Ace was against the release of the album and was out voted by Gene and Paul.

Ace finally left in November 1982, and formed a band with Peter Frampton, Ritchie Scarlett, Anton Fig, and Rob Sabino. In 1987, Frehley's band called Frehleys Comet released their first album with the same name. A victim of two car wrecks, he dedicated the song rock soldiers from the album to the 1983 DeLorean car wreck. He released the second album second sighting in 1988, which did not do well but he continued his touring. The last album for KISS that features Ace Frehley's songs was Psycho Circus in 1998.
