Catherine Zeta Jones To Star in “Dad’s Army”

“Dad’s Army,” a classic BBC sitcom that is going to be renewed in movie form and it will have an A-lister in its cast. That Hollywood megastar is none other than Catherine Zeta Jones! The cast of the big screen adaptation of the classic sitcom has been announced, and is set to star some big names apart from Jones, like Bill Nighy and Sarah Lancashire.

The “Love Actually” star Bill Nighy will take the role of Sergeant Wilson, originally played by John Le Mesurier, while the “Singing Detective” actor Michael Gambon, will play Private Godfrey.

Catherine Zeta Jones, who is married to Michael Douglas, is set to play the role of Rose, a glamorous journalist who is sent to report on the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard before MI5 discovers that there is a German spy in the fictional British town.

Toby Jones, who starred in huge blockbusters like “Harry Potter”, “The Hunger Games” and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”, will play Captain Mainwarin. Other stars who have signed up to appear in the film include Sarah Lancashire, Sir Tom Courtenay (known for his role in “Doctor Zhivago”), Blake Harrison (from “The Inbetweeners”) and Danny Mays.

The film is set to begin shooting later this month in Yorkshire, with director Oliver Parker who worked on “Johnny English Reborn”, “St Trinian’s,” “Othello,” and other relatively successful films. The script is being written by “Mr Bean’s Holiday’s” Hamish McColl, who is also known for writing the script for “Johnny English Reborn.”

The original sitcom “Dad’s Army” ran for nine series between 1968 and 1977. It followed a World War II Home Guard platoon.
