In 2013, Angelina Jolie underwent a preventive double mastectomy after finding out she was positive for the BRCA1 gene. The famous actress shared details of her latest procedure following another cancer scare.
The Hollywood icon explained her move by saying, “I know my children will never have to say, ‘Mom died of ovarian cancer”.
As cancer took the lives of her mother, aunt and grandmother, at the early-stage signs of ovarian cancer revealed in a routine blood test, the actress decided to take action and leave nothing to chance.
“I went through what I imagine thousands of other women have felt,” said Jolie upon receiving her blood test results.
“I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn’t live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren.”
Although she did keep her uterus, having undergone this procedure Jolie will not be able to have any more biological children.
