Angelina Jolie has recently opened up about her tough teen day during which she was battling depression. It seems that her teen depression stemmed from the fact that she grew up in California, apparently not the right place to be a teen.

Destructive & Miserable

The actress admitted her happiness came from her not being able to appreciate her life the way she was supposed to.

“I grew up in LA, where focus is very inward. I didn’t know why I was so destructive and miserable. I didn’t appreciate or understand my life,” Jolie said, adding that success early in life only made her feel worse.

“I was raised in a place where if you have fame and money and you’re decent-looking and have the ability to work in this industry, you have everything in the world. Then you attain those things and realize you still couldn’t be more empty. I didn’t know where to put myself.”

The star also said that it was only her humanitarian work that helped pull her through the feelings of emptiness. Jolie was asked to serve as goodwill ambassador for UNHCR in 2001, and she has represented this organization admirably ever since.

So, there you have it. If you ever find yourself in a bind feeling miserable, do some charity work. It will help.
