1. Mel Gibson
The most notorious charge against him is that of anti-Semitism.
He has also been reported as making remarks insulting to homosexual people, to people of color and to Mexicans, who he is said to have referred to as ‘wetbacks’.
These lapses often happen when the actor has had a lot to drink.
Gibson’s ex-colleague, the script writer, Joe Esterhazy was recently involved in a project with the actor to create a film about the Maccabee revolt in ancient Judea.
The script written by Esterhazy has now been rejected as unusable by Gibson, resulting in a furious public row. Esterhazy has claimed that the project was sabotaged by the actor because of his hostility to Jewish people.
There are documented instances of this prejudice, most famously when the drunken actor was stopped by a traffic policeman, only to accuse the law officer of being a Jew, and informing him that the Jews had caused all the wars in history.
He later apologized. Apologies are all very well, but Gibson is unlikely to be forgiven while his ugly speeches continue.
