3. Ben Affleck
Affleck stayed sober for a decade before being spotted with a drink at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011. He shot to prominence during the early 1990s after a series of supporting roles in hit films like “Dazed and Confused.”
It was after winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and starring in the Michael Bay action film “Armageddon,” however, that this star truly rose to heights that few get to see during their careers or even in their lifetimes.
His struggle with alcohol did not largely impact his career, as he made several hit films during or before his time in rehab in 2001, most notably “Pearl Harbor.” In fact, his relationships seemed to impact his films more.
His status as a serious actor was undermined when he starred in the critically panned movie “Gigli” and became engaged to his leading lady Jennifer Lopez. Their extravagant wedding was called off days before it was scheduled, and Affleck now leads a much lower key life with Jennifer Garner and their 3 children.
His alcohol issues are a thing of the past, and he achieved renewed career success when he won an Oscar for “Best Film” for “Argo.”
